What a weekend it was as folks form across the Island came out to empty their pockets in support of Island Affordable Housing at its second Annual Telethon and Premiere Party. And support it they did with the IAHF netting well over double their original goal of $550,000 with a whopping $1,450,250 million dollars raised to assist fellow residents to acheive the dream of owning their own homes...Way to go, MV!!!

It was a jam-packed weekend of beach dwelling, seafood grilling and small town festivities for the 4th of July. Tourists and Islanders lined the streets of Edgartown for the celebratory parade marking our nation's 232nd birthday.

Fire on Main Street, July 4, 2008

The Fourth of July fire that swept through Cafe Moxie in Vineyard Haven destroyed not only the recently reopened restaurant but also seriously damaged the adjacent Bunch of Grapes bookstore, a destination landmark on Main Street. Susan Moner of We Will Do Your Job Landscaping was on hand as Tisbury firefighers did their best to contain the blaze.

Just about everywhere you look, hints of spring greet the eye. It can be something as subtle as the changed quality of light playing upon the harbor water or as unmistakable as a long established bed of crocuses dotting a sunny space with purple, yellow and white flowers. Given its geography, the Island can't completely escape the changibility of New England weather, but rain or shine we think you'll agree, on Martha's Vineyard the season has, beyond a doubt, turned a corner.

For the past 21years, as January comes to a close, mvyradio's Chili Contest has turned up the heat on Martha's Vineyard -- drawing chili heads from near and far for a fix of their favorite hot stuff. This year, it was no different. Though snow threatened, it was party time at the PA Club for contestants and the hundreds of happy tasters who showed up to do the work of deciding who would be named chili champs of 2008.
