Possible Dreams Auction

Celebrates Its 30th Year!

Dreams Do Come True!
A few lucky bidders at the  Possible Dreams Auction on Monday, August 4 will have the chance to meet  Ernie Els,  Jake Gyllenhaal,  Doug Liman, Diane Sawyer, Tony Shalhoub or Jim Belushi. The auction takes place rain or shine under a grand tent at the Outerland nightclub at M.V. Airport. Seating starts at 3:30 p.m. and the bidding begins at 4:30 p.m.

Good Fun for a Good Cause
The Possible Dreams Auction, sponsored this year by Comcast, has a 30-year history of making dreams come true, all to support the good work of Martha's Vineyard Community Services. The event, one of the first celebrity fundraising auctions in the country and the Vineyard’s premiere charity event, has raised more than $7.25 million over the years to help individuals and families gain access to vital health and human services on the island of Martha's Vineyard.

The auction has grown from a modest gathering that netted about $1,000 in 1979 to one that now attracts 1,000 attendees each year and has raised as much as $850,000 in one evening. Along the way, the late Art Buchwald wielded the gavel with a deft touch and cajoled such luminaries as Mike Wallace, Walter Cronkite, Jules Feiffer and Carly Simon into joining the fun.

The 2008 Line-Up of Dreams
This year, singer/songwriter Livingston Taylor joins auctioneers Rick Lee and Susan Klein at the podium to auction off such dreams as a private golf clinic with world champion Ernie Els, a visit with film director Doug Liman and actor Jake Gyllenhaal on the set of their upcoming movie, a visit to the set of Good Morning America with Diane Sawyer and a night at the theatre with Mike Nichols, the Red Sox VIP treatment in the owner's suite at Fenway Park this fall, and an invitation to the 2009 American Idol finals.

Win a chance dine with Tony Shalhoub, star of the TV series Monk, and his wife, actress/artist Brooke Adams; author Michael Pollan; writer/director Diane English; Pulitzer-winners Geraldine Brooks and Tony Horwitz; actor Jim Belushi; or Jewish cookbook author Joan Nathan. Travel to Paris to visit secret prehistoric cave paintings, sail aboard General Patton's magnificent schooner, or get the deluxe VIP treatment at the 2009 Masters in Augusta. The possibilities are endless!
